The Readers Club of EUI open discussion around Freedom of Expression

The Readers Club, under the faculty of Business Informatics, held a discussion session entitled "Freedom of Expression, Right or Privilege? At EUI's Library on Wednesday, 30 November 2022, with Prof. Samaa Taher, Dean of the Faculty of Business Informatics, Dr. Mostafa Kamel & Dr. Nehal Afifi, Assistant professors at the Faculty of Business Informatics, in addition to Mr. Yasser Abdou, EUI's Librarian.

During the session, the Readers club members had an open discussion with the esteemed professors about the pros and cons of the freedom of expression in the age of social media.

The session highlighted the importance of the Freedom of Expression, as it enables the free exchange of ideas, opinions, and information and thus allows members of society to form their opinions on public importance.

Students expressed their happiness that in the modern age, they can express themselves through photos, videos, and writing articles on websites through social media and other amazing apps, Like Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, and Whatsapp.

The Academic professors also highlighted to the club members the disadvantages of freedom of expression since people can often confuse freedom of expression with being able to say and believe anything. Devout people may see it as a means to say whatever they wish. Freedom of expression means to express yourself without the fear of consequence. However, sometimes many things people say can offend other people.
