IE University Delegation visits EUI campus
Prof. Ahmed Hamad, Acting President of Egypt University of Informatics, welcomed Mr. Diego del Alcázar Benjumea, CEO of IE University of Spain, and his accompanying delegation at the university's headquarters in Knowledge City, New Administrative Capital. This visit falls within the university's drive to strengthen academic and research cooperation with distinguished global universities. IE University is considered one of Spain's most prestigious private international universities, ranked among the top European universities, with campuses in both Madrid and Segovia. It is globally renowned for its focus on innovation, entrepreneurship, and international orientation in education, enrolling students from more than 130 countries.
The Spanish delegation included Professor Manuel Muñiz, President of IE University Madrid and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of IE School New York, Prof. Adelaide Isaac, Director of Business Development for Global Partnerships and Alliances, and Mr. Joseph Saffer, Regional Head for the Middle East and Africa. Representing Egypt University of Informatics were Dr. Yasser Kazem, Secretary General of the University, the deans of the four faculties, and a number of faculty members.
Prof. Ahmed Hamad stated that Egypt University of Informatics is working to expand the scope of its international partnerships and open up to distinguished academic institutions, keeping pace with the rapid developments in the global ICT sector, with a focus on developing the technical and innovative skills required for careers in telecommunications, digital transformation, software industries, and advanced technologies.
He added that both sides agreed to cooperate across several tracks, most notably student exchange — with approximately 1,300 students from IE University participating annually in exchange programs with partner universities spanning a network of more than 300 academic partners worldwide. The two sides also agreed to explore participation in a dual-degree program between Egypt University of Informatics and IE University at both the bachelor's and master's levels, in addition to benefiting from IE University's summer school experience — organized in collaboration with other universities such as Harvard and London Business School — as well as leveraging IE University's broad academic and industry network.
He noted that the significance of cooperation with the Spanish university stems from the fact that it began as a business administration institution, later expanded into science and technology, and currently focuses on data science, artificial intelligence, industrial engineering, entrepreneurship, and innovation — fields in which it holds a high global standing.
For his part, Mr. Diego del Alcázar Benjumea, CEO of IE University, affirmed that Egypt is one of the university's attractive markets, expressing his aspiration to broaden cooperation with various entities in Egypt and to implement programs aimed at building digital capabilities and equipping youth in the fields of telecommunications and information technology in line with global labor market demands, with a focus on advanced technology specializations and fostering innovation and entrepreneurship skills in partnership with universities and academic institutions.
He added that IE University offers bachelor's, postgraduate, and doctoral programs across multiple disciplines in English, with growing emphasis on specializations related to digital transformation and the knowledge economy. The university also provides a range of academic programs in telecommunications and IT, including a bachelor's in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, as well as programs in Data Science, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, Digital Technology, Architecture, and Business Informatics.
During the meeting, Dr. Amal El-Gamal, Head of International Relations at the university, explained that Egypt University of Informatics adopts a modern educational framework that integrates theoretical study with practical application, focusing on preparing qualified professionals in artificial intelligence, data engineering, digital transformation, robotics, financial technology, electronic game design, and user experience — all in alignment with Egypt's national vision of building an innovation-driven knowledge economy.
She emphasized that EUI's international partnerships with leading global universities and institutions represent a cornerstone of the university's strategy to enhance the quality of education and scientific research and to enable students to compete in local, regional, and international labor markets. She highlighted the university's network of international agreements with prestigious universities in the United States, Canada, France, and beyond.
She also noted that the university maintains a strong cooperation network with major global technology companies, reinforcing the integration of academia with industry and equipping students with real-world practical experience in competitive environments.
She further pointed out that the university recently won a research project funded by the European Union's Horizon Europe program (GAINAfrica)—marking its first participation as a funded beneficiary in European research and innovation projects—reflecting the university's growing stature as a young research institution with an increasingly prominent international presence.
