The Faculty of Business Informatics signs an agreement with Telfer School of Management in Canada

H.E.Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, witnessed via video conference the signing of a cooperation agreement and a protocol for academic partnership between the Faculty of Business Informatics at EUI and Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa in Canada to support academic cooperation and the exchange of experience in scientific research and offering a dual bachelor degree from both, The Faculty of Business Informatics at EUI and Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa. 

Telfer School of Management is one of the top 1% of the world's business schools holding the triple crown of business school accreditations. The University of Ottawa is one of the prestigious Canadian universities and the largest bilingual university in the world, adopting French and English languages in teaching, and is ranked 9th  among Canadian universities (according to the US News 2023).

As per this agreement; Students of the Faculty of Business Informatics will study Business Technology Management, Digital Marketing and E-Commerce and Finance Programs at the University of Ottawa for the last two academic years; Students will study the university's courses remotely for one year, then complete their study program at the University of Ottawa's campus in the last year, allowing them to obtain a dual bachelor's degree in their specialization. The agreement also allows the exchange of academic visits between the two universities.

Over the past year, EUI has concluded agreements and partnerships with prestigious international universities with a high world ranking. The Faculty of Computing and Information Sciences has concluded a dual degree agreement with the University of Minnesota Twin Cities (ranked #34 in Computer Science in US News, 2023) and Professional Masters in Information Security agreement with Purdue West Lafayette (ranked #7 in Cyber Security in US News, 2023) The Faculty of Engineering has also concluded a dual degree agreement in Electrical and Computer Engineering with Purdue West Lafayette(ranked #4 in Electrical and Computer Engineering, US News, 2023) and Professional Masters in Information Security agreement with Purdue West Lafayette (ranked #7 in Cyber Security in US News, 2023)

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology highlighted that the signing of the agreement between the Faculty of Business Informatics at EUI and Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa, comes in light of the distinct relations between Egypt and Canada. He added that Capacity-building and human development are among the essential pillars of strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

In an official press release by MCIT, Dr. Talaat elaborated that this agreement comes to complement the successful partnership with the University of Ottawa, where an agreement was signed between the university and the "Digital Egypt Builders" Initiative launched by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. Egypt University of Informatics aims to establish diverse partnerships with major international universities to provide high-quality academic programs for students, stressing the importance of capacity-building, which is a crucial pillar for sustainable economic and social development, as the Ministry seeks to provide all possibilities for the development of young people's capacities.

On another side,  H.E.Ambassador Hazem Fahmy, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for American Affairs, commended the efforts made to promote Egypt's ICT sector, noting the importance of developing Egyptian capabilities in the fields of Communications and Information Technology, which is one of the most important elements for achieving development; He looked forward to deepening such partnerships with Canadian educational institutions and universities, particularly in the areas of Communications and Information Technology. He expressed his confidence that this cooperation will contribute to graduating students who will have a clear impact on building Egypt's future.

Moreover, H.E.Ahmed Hafez, Ambassador of Egypt in Canada, explained that the signing of the cooperation agreement between Egypt University of Informatics and the University of Ottawa comes within the framework of a new partnership between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the University of Ottawa after the first partnership with "Digital Egypt Builders" Initiative. Counting on the University of Ottawa's high academic level and successful partnerships with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, he stressed that he would continue to make every effort to support such partnerships with Canadian universities and support Egyptian students in Canada.

H.E. Canadian Ambassador in Cairo, Louis Dumas, also praised this partnership between the University of Ottawa, one of the leading universities, and Egypt University of Informatics, a key success factor of this successful cooperation, being a promising educational institution. This cooperation will contribute to providing high-quality education for students, praising the strong ties between Egypt and Canada; where 13,000 Egyptian students are enrolled in Canada's educational institutions, enriching Canada's cultural diversity.

Prof. Reem Bahgat, President of Egypt University of Informatics, expressed her gratitude for this new agreement saying "This agreement comes within the framework of the commitment to hold partnerships with major international universities, in addition to the State's ongoing efforts represented in the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, to build cooperation and communication with leading distinguished and long-standing academic institutions such as the University of Ottawa, to expand and diversify educational programs and curricula, and supporting and enhancing the experience of students. She added "The agreement includes the eligibility of  EUI students from the Faculty of Business  Informatics who meet the requirements to receive a dual bachelor's degree in specific disciplines and programs that we offer them, as well as strengthening efforts and joint work between the two universities through a range of activities based on sharing knowledge and experience with the organization of joint seminars and conferences and the dissemination of research, to enable students to achieve maximum benefit in their educational careers and prepare them optimally and in a manner appropriate to the needs of the labour market ".

Prof. Jacques Vermont, President of the University of Ottawa, noted that he had visited Egypt University of Informatics a few months ago to discuss the proposed collaborations that are being translated through the signing of this agreement, which will allow students of Egypt University of Informatics to study the courses of the University of Ottawa, remotely, as well as study at the university campus in  Ottawa and hold their dual degree from both universities. 

He stressed that the agreement would allow students to study several essential disciplines in modern technologies; The global labour market is undergoing dynamic changes that will impact students and countries.

The president of the University of Ottawa also added that the partnership between the University of Ottawa and Egypt University of Informatics is a model for partnerships based on the mutual benefit of both universities. The study program will combine a study specializing in Communications, Information Technology and Management, which are essential areas for both Egypt and Canada.

Prof.. Sani Yaya, Vice-President of the University of Ottawa for International Relations and Francophonie, expressed his pleasure at signing this agreement with Egypt University of Informatics, the leading provider of education in specialized fields of Communications and Information Technology for students. The cooperation program will allow Egypt University of Informatics students to study the courses of Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa during the last two academic years. The partnership will allow the University of Ottawa to expand its presence in Egypt and attract more international students.
