Three EUIans Win First Place in Regional “Wameed” Short Film Competition with Grandmatales

We are proud to announce that three exceptional students from the Faculty of Digital Arts and Design at Egypt University of Informatics (EUI) have won first place in the prestigious Wameed Short Film Competition for their short film titled “Grandmatales.”

The Wameed competition, organized by the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group at ISSATM, is a regional initiative that brings together young creatives and engineers from Tunisia, Jordan, and Egypt. The event aims to promote storytelling, cultural identity, and gender inclusivity through short films that reflect personal experiences, local traditions, and real-world issues.

The winning team from EUI stood out among dozens of participants in both the national and regional rounds. Their short film, Grandmatales, captivated the jury with its originality, emotional impact, and technical execution. Blending culture, creativity, and narrative strength, the film highlighted the rich storytelling tradition passed down through generations, seen through the eyes of youth.

The competition involved multiple phases, starting with a national selection where the top teams from each country qualified for the regional finals. The EUI team successfully progressed to the final round, where they competed against the best entries from across the MENA region and emerged victorious.

As part of the competition, all participants underwent mandatory training sessions that enhanced their filmmaking skills and provided opportunities for cross-border collaboration and creative exchange. The EUI team’s commitment, artistic vision, and dedication were evident throughout the process, earning them well-deserved recognition on the regional stage.

This win reflects the university’s ongoing support for interdisciplinary creativity and the integration of technology with the arts. It also showcases EUI’s dedication to empowering students to express their voices and engage with wider regional platforms.

Congratulations to our talented EUIans for this remarkable achievement. We look forward to seeing more of their creative work in the future!
