EUI Signs an MoU with Lancaster University to Promote Academic and Research Excellence

EUI has signed a cooperation agreement with Lancaster University, one of the top ten universities in the United Kingdom, in a ceremony attended on Wednesday by Eng. Ghada Mostafa Labib, Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology for Institutional Development. This new partnership further strengthens EUI’s growing network of international collaborations with leading universities across the United States, Canada, and France—and now, the United Kingdom.

The agreement was signed by Prof. Ahmed Hamad, Acting President of Egypt University of Informatics (EUI), and Professor Kirk Semple, Director of International Research at Lancaster University. The signing was also witnessed by Ambassador Sherif Kamel, Egypt’s Ambassador to the UK (via video call), Mr. Mark Howard, Director of the British Council in Egypt; Prof. Marwan Ezz El-Din, Professor of Financial Econometrics at Lancaster University; and EUI’s deans and top management.

Prof. Ahmed Hamad emphasized that EUI is committed to bringing the best global educational practices, especially from the world’s top universities, into Egypt to support national efforts to elevate higher education and scientific research. This is essential for positioning Egypt as an active contributor to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, not just a consumer of its technologies. He stressed the importance of preparing graduates who are well-equipped to handle fast-paced global technological developments and who are qualified for future jobs and entrepreneurial leadership.

He added that cooperation with Lancaster University, one of the UK's top institutions, further enhances EUI’s regional and international standing. The agreement offers numerous benefits to faculty and students at EUI, including opportunities for ongoing dialogue, collaboration in research and academic activities, faculty and student exchanges, and joint teaching initiatives.

According to Prof. Hamad, the collaboration also includes joint research opportunities and initiatives for both faculty and students at both institutions, as well as the creation of forums for knowledge and expertise sharing.

The agreement outlines a mechanism for regular communication between the two universities to facilitate the exchange of faculty, students, and researchers for teaching, study, and academic research. It also encourages the exchange of academic publications and resources, collaborative research (including joint publications and activities), and participation in conferences, academic meetings, and joint exhibitions.

Furthermore, the agreement commits both universities to work together on the development of academic programs of mutual interest. This includes launching faculty and student exchange programs, as well as the potential creation of joint degree programs awarded by one or both institutions, in accordance with each university’s internal quality assurance processes for international academic programs.

Lancaster University enjoys a strong global reputation for excellence in education and research. It is ranked among the top 10 universities in the UK (according to the Complete University Guide 2025) and among the top 150 universities globally in the QS World University Rankings 2025.
