Appointment of Prof. Ahmed Hamad as Acting President

The Board of Trustees of Egypt University of Informatics (EUI) has appointed Professor Ahmed Hamad as the acting president of the university. The board also decided to name the main auditorium hall at the university after the late Professor Reem Bahgat, the founding president of the university and a member of the Advisory Council for Egypt’s Scientists and Experts, in honor of her memory.
Prof. Ahmed Hamad is a distinguished academic and scientific figure. He served as the president of the British University in Egypt from 2014 to 2021 and as the president of Al-Reyada University from March to December 2023. He joined Egypt University of Informatics last year, where he took on the role of Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, in addition to overseeing the implementation of the university’s academic strategy, which focuses on fostering innovation, development, creativity, and enhancing the role of scientific research and future-focused programs.
Prof. Ahmed Hamad holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Orsay, France (1981), specializing in electronic systems analysis. He has published over 70 research papers in international and local conferences and journals, covering various fields of information technology. With more than 50 years of academic and research experience since obtaining his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the Military Technical College in May 1971 (with honors), Prof. Hamad also holds a postgraduate diploma in aeronautical systems (aviation electronics) from the Military Technical College (1972) and a master's degree in aircraft electronics systems from the University of Brno, Czechoslovakia (1977).
Prof. Hamad has made numerous academic, research, and community contributions. His career highlights include being a full professor in computer systems at Ain Shams University, a professor in electronic systems (1989), a professor in digital electronics (1997), a life member of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), a member of the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) since 2005, head of the Aircraft Electronics Department at the Military Technical College (1992-1996), a professor in computer systems at Ain Shams University (1998), and various leadership roles at multiple universities. He also served as a representative for the Arab region in the UNESCO Global Monitoring Report on Higher Education in 2016 and 2017 and as vice president of Hayah University in Cairo from September 2022 to February 2023.
Prof. Hamad confirmed that Egypt University of Informatics is preparing to graduate its first cohorts from the faculties of Computer Science and Information, Digital Arts and Design, and Business Technology, while the Faculty of Engineering will graduate its first batch of students next year. He expressed hope that these graduates will be a strong addition to the labor market, particularly in the telecommunications and information technology sector, which Egypt considers a driving force for job opportunities and economic growth.
He also emphasized that Egypt University of Informatics, since its establishment four years ago, has aimed to create an educational entity that combines theoretical and practical aspects, offering a range of study options to students through a network of partnerships with top global universities in the fields of communications and information technology, including those in the United States, Canada, and France.
Additionally, EUI collaborates with some of the most renowned research centers globally, which have contributed to transforming the university into a beacon of scientific research. The university works on converting students’ coursework and research into innovations and projects that serve Egyptian society and the Arab world, helping EUIans become entrepreneurs who contribute to the growth of the ICT sector and national economic growth.
