Dr. Amal Elgammal Represents EUI at SDPS Workshop in Leuven
Egypt University of Informatics (EUI) is proud to announce that Dr. Amal Elgammal, Head of the Software Engineering Department and Head of the International Relations Office at EUI, took part as one of the organizing speakers of the workshop "Transdisciplinary Digital Manufacturing: Integrating Industrial Practice with AI, IoT and Data-Driven Research" at SDPS 2026, held in Leuven, Belgium.
The workshop, organized under the EU project NARRATE (Regenerative Resilient Smart Manufacturing Networks), took place on August 24, 2026, and brought together leading academics and industry experts to explore how transdisciplinary collaboration between industry and research is advancing digital production in manufacturing networks facing global disruptions. Dr. Elgammal joined a distinguished panel of speakers that included Prof. Bernd Krämer, Professor Emeritus of Computer Science at FernUniversität in Hagen, Germany, and co-founder of SDPS; Prof. Michael Papazoglou, Emeritus Professor of Computer Science at Tilburg University in the Netherlands; and María José Núñez Ariño, Head of the Information Technology Department at AIDIMME, Spain.
The session focused on how new methods from computer science, including AI, IoT, digital twins, and big data analytics, can be combined with practical knowledge from manufacturing and supply chain management. Speakers showcased concrete applications and shared lessons learned from industry-research collaborations across Europe, highlighting how digital tools are helping manufacturing networks become more resilient in the face of ongoing disruptions.
Dr. Elgammal's participation highlights EUI's growing international presence in the fields of software engineering, digital transformation, and applied AI research. She earned her Ph.D. in Information Systems from Tilburg University under the supervision of Prof. Michael Papazoglou, and her continued collaboration with him and other leading researchers reflects EUI's commitment to fostering strong global academic partnerships. Her presence on the panel as one of the workshop's organizers reinforces Egypt University of Informatics' role in connecting Egyptian academia with cutting-edge international research on smart manufacturing, resilience, and transdisciplinary innovation.
