EUI welcomes Nigeria’s Minister of Communications and Economics to explore ways of scientific and technical cooperation

Egypt University for Informatics(EUI), headed by Prof. Reem Bahgat, President of the University, at its headquarters in Knowledge City in the New Administrative Capital, welcomed H.E. Prof. Amr. Eissa Ali Bantami, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy in Nigeria, was accompanied by a high-esteemed delegation to learn about the capabilities that the university possesses and to discuss areas of cooperation between the university and its counterparts in Nigeria in capacity building and specialized areas such as Artificial intelligence and Cybersecurity.

The meeting was set in the presence of  Prof. Mohamed El-Sharkawi, EUI’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, Prof. Hoda Mokhtar, Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Information Sciences, Prof. Samaa Taher, Dean of the Faculty of Business Informatics, and Prof. Ashraf Zaki, Dean of the Faculty of Digital Arts and Design. Prof. Reem Bahgat, the University President, emphasized the depth of the distinguished relations it brought together between Egypt and Nigeria and expressed its aspiration to enhance scientific cooperation between the university and Nigeria.

Prof. Reem Bahgat also presented what the university has achieved during the past period. Thanks to the full support provided to it by the political leadership and the state represented by the Ministries of Communication and Information Technology and Higher Education and Scientific Research, becoming the first specialized university in the field of Communications and Information Technology and their affected fields in the Middle East and Africa to graduate cadres specialized in advanced technologies in partnership with major international universities. EUI caters to keeping pace with developments and consolidating the values of technology within the digital transformation strategy that Egypt is witnessing.

H.E. Prof. Eissa Ali Bantami, Nigerian Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, expressed his happiness and his accompanying delegation to be present at Egypt University of Informatics, which he described as a blessed university due to its capabilities, advanced technological infrastructure, specializations, modern academic programs, and specialized research laboratories that keep pace with the most prestigious international universities. He noted his interest in learning about the Egyptian experience in developing the telecommunications infrastructure.

The Nigerian Minister of Communications and Digital Economy indicated that, in light of the digital economy strategy announced by his country in 2019, he established an artificial intelligence center in Nigeria in light of the interest in advanced technologies to provide more efficient digital solutions. H.E. invited the President of Egypt University of Informatics and faculty members to visit Nigeria to strengthen cooperation between the university and his country in this sector.

After the end of the meeting, the Nigerian Minister and his accompanying delegation toured the university campus to get acquainted with its facilities and advanced research centers, during which Eng. Tanco Abo Bakr, Deputy Minister, Eng. Mokhtar Seddik, Technical Assistant to the Minister at the Nigerian Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, accompanied him, along with H.E. Nawra Aba Al-Rimi, Nigerian Ambassador to Cairo.
