At the opening of the seventh edition of the Digital Nation Conference, held on behalf of the Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat, Deputy ICT Minister for Administrative Development, Digital Transformation, and Automation Khaled El Attar delivered a keynote address.
Organized by the Chamber of Information Technology and Telecommunication (CIT), the conference brought together key figures such as Minister of Trade and Industry Nevin Gamea, Minister of Technology and Science in Zambia Felix Mutati, Director-General of Digital Dubai Hamad Al Mansoori, and leaders from the ICT sector in Egypt and across the Arab and African regions. With over 60 ICT companies participating, Egypt’s growing influence in the digital space was clearly evident.
A notable participant was Egypt University of Informatics (EUI), underscoring its critical role in Egypt’s digital future. EUI’s involvement showcased the growing importance of academia in the country’s digital transformation efforts, particularly in nurturing the next generation of tech talent.
In her remarks during the session, “Women are Key Drivers in Digital Transformation-Based Development,” Dr. Reem Bahgat, President of Egypt University of Informatics, emphasized the university’s commitment to equipping students with cutting-edge skills. "At Egypt University of Informatics, we are determined to prepare our students to lead the digital future of Egypt and beyond. Our focus is on ensuring they are not only adept at current technologies but also pioneers of tomorrow’s innovations," said Bahgat.
In his opening remarks, ICT Minister Amr Talaat highlighted Egypt’s commitment to embracing Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies and accelerating the digital transformation into an inclusive society. He noted the Ministry’s work in driving digital transformation across various sectors, collaborating with state institutions to build Digital Egypt.
A core part of this effort, Talaat explained, is the establishment of Egypt University of Informatics (EUI) in the New Administrative Capital, which is playing a vital role in producing skilled graduates who will lead Egypt’s digital future. This initiative, alongside other major efforts like the Digital Egypt Builders Initiative (DEBI) and partnerships with international tech leaders, emphasizes the Ministry’s comprehensive strategy to build digital capabilities nationwide.
Talaat also highlighted the massive growth in Egypt’s Venture Capital (VC) sector and the significant strides in improving internet infrastructure, which place Egypt at the forefront of African nations in terms of internet speed.
As part of its overarching vision, the Ministry is implementing initiatives aimed at upskilling young Egyptians, including partnerships with tech giants to support digital freelancing and entrepreneurship. These efforts align with Egypt’s broader mission of positioning itself as a leader in digital innovation and collaboration across Arab and African countries.
