Six Winners at GENAI for Education Hackathon 2026

The Innovation Center at the Egypt University of Informatics held the Closing & Awards Ceremony of the Generative AI in Education Hackathon 2026 on 13 October 2026. The hackathon was organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT). Prizes worth 450,000 EGP were awarded to six winning teams across two tracks.

The hackathon invited university students and startup founders to build generative-AI solutions for education. It ran in two tracks, a Student Track and a Startup Track, across five challenges: AI Tutor, Open Challenge, Assessment Revolution, Accessibility & Inclusion, and Content Creation.

The response was strong across the country. Registration opened on 21 August and closed after five days with 1,000 registrations from 25 of Egypt's 27 governorates. A total of 734 applicants from 160 institutions formed 228 teams.

In the training and mentoring stage, six live technical sessions totalling 17 hours were held from 23 to 31 August, and 172 participants earned certificates. Six expert mentors then delivered eight mentoring sessions from 15 to 17 September, supporting 12 teams.

In the selection stage, eight reviewers screened the applications, and 153 teams advanced. On 6 and 7 October, 32 teams pitched their projects at Demo Day to an 11-member judging committee that included representatives of the hackathon's sponsors and partners.

In the Startup Track, SKAYZ won first place and 120,000 EGP for its AI, programming and robotics education for Grades 4–12. NaFees AI took second place and 80,000 EGP for its Anatomy Lab project (Mansoura University). Dars edu by Aloegy, an Egyptian-Arabic-first AI voice tutor, took third place and 50,000 EGP.

In the Student Track, Hikaya from the German University in Cairo won first place and 80,000 EGP. Shafahi from MSA University took second place and 60,000 EGP, and Play2Be from the Egypt University of Informatics took third place and 40,000 EGP. Hikaya also won the 20,000 EGP Best Arabic Solution award, bringing its total to 100,000 EGP.

The hackathon was supported by WE & WE Innovate (Platinum Sponsor), Intel (Gold Sponsor), and the technical partners Keheilan Asset Management and EdVentures. It is also one of EUI's deliverables in the Horizon Europe GAINAfrica project.
