Cairo – 19th of May 2022

Counsellor Adly Mansour, former President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, chaired EUI’s periodic Board of Trustees meeting with all members of the Council to discuss the university’s role in supporting the communication and information technology (ICT) industry and entrepreneurship through the academic and research programs offered by the university to its students. The meeting was held at the university’s headquarters in the Knowledge City in the Administrative Capital on 19th May, 2022.

Counsellor Adly Mansour and members of the Board of Trustees toured the university campus, where the attendees praised the efforts of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology - the founder of the university, in providing the latest technological means for education and laboratory equipment required for the educational process and scientific research.

The Board of Trustees praised the importance of the university’s location in the heart of the Knowledge City in the New Administrative Capital, which represents an integrated informatics community with its inclusion of training & research centres, incubation of start-ups, as well as headquarters for local and international companies working in the fields related to information technology, which allows faculty members and university students to interact with all elements of the advanced ICT system.

At the beginning of the meeting, Counsellor Adly Mansour, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, welcomed the members, stressing the importance of the university’s role in preparing distinguished cadres that contribute to building the digital society in line with the country’s 2030 plan, which aims to establish a culture of innovation and scientific research in the fields related to communication and information technology, and to develop solutions to all future challenges which this important vital sector witnesses.

On the other hand, Dr. Reem Bahgat, President of Egypt University of Informatics (EUI), presented the university’s efforts in executing the international agreements with the Universities of Purdue West Lafayette and Minnesota twin Cities, as well as the new agreements which the university is initiating with other highly reputable international universities.

Dr. Reem Bahgat indicated that a memorandum of understanding was signed with Microsoft to further develop smart classes and allow EUI to be the university of the 21st century. She has also pointed out that preparations are underway to conclude similar agreements.

In addition, the Board of Trustees discussed several topics related to the educational process, including the start of new academic specializations at the university. The Board has also agreed to establish a business development centre to support innovation and entrepreneurship. The importance of the centre is due to its role in building the bridge between education and scientific research on the one hand, and the pragmatic reality on the other hand. It has also been approved by Chairman Counsellor Adly Mansour and the board to add new scholarships for the champions as well as those of special needs.

It is noteworthy that in its first year, the university succeeded in attracting distinguished students in its four fields (Engineering, Computing and Information Sciences, Business Informatics, and Digital Arts & Design). This is in line with the university’s vision and mission and the goals that constituted its strategic plan, after the university implemented a program of full scholarships for the top high school graduates (President El Sisi’s Initiative), which benefited 29 students. This full scholarship includes tuition fees and transportation expenses, and living cost for the students living outside Cairo and Giza. This is in addition to a series of partial scholarships based on academic merit.

Further to its achievements, the university is working to continue granting scholarships, in its second year, to more students with the aim of contributing to building a community specialised in modern fields related to communication and information technology, and providing scientific competencies to meet the increasing requirements of the local market in particular and globally in general.
